The Orgaphonics have just released a debut, self-titled CD. This collection of eleven tracks features two originals and a satisfying assortment of modern jazz songs and standards from composers such as Joe Henderson, Woody Shaw, Clifford Brown, and Wes Montgomery. The Orgaphonics’s approach is rooted in the tradition of jazz organ groups as established by Jimmy Smith and Larry Young, but the trio members each bring their own musical experience and respective influences to the group to forge a new sound. The Orgaphonics is Kevin Van Sant on guitar, Mark Wells on Hammond B3 organ, and Dan Davis on drums.
