One of the things that Beyu loves to do is showcase new local talent. We want to be a place where people can get their start, where newer artists are comfortable. With that in mind, we are delighted to be bringing you the music of Shawn Deena, a Beyu regular and exciting local musician.
“Music is in my soul and my soul is my music” says Shawn Deena. He has been making his mark on the music scene in North Carolina since he moved there in 2001. Entertaining audiences both large and small his sound is both unique and comfortable. Listeners will recognize influences from artists such as Dave Matthews, Richie Havens, Ben Harper, John Mayer, Eddie Vedder, and Johnny Cash throughout his songs. His acoustic alternative performance style has been described as anything from energetically lively to frenzied fun with a splash of humor.
As a drummer earlier in his musical career and playing in several bands, Shawn has been playing music as long as he can remember. His transition to singer/songwriter was gradual starting out originally as the guy who wrote lyrics and collaborated with members of various bands he was part of. As he continued to explore his songwriting skills he honed both his guitar and vocal style to develop the sound he currently has.
“I write with soul, passion and sincerity,” he says. “When I’m composing music I try to approach it very organically. My words reflect my own feelings and philosophies that people can connect with and relate to in a variety of ways.”
He currently performs in an around the Triangle area at local venues, events and festivals either doing solo shows, as a support act or taking part in benefits or fundraisers.
