Our story begins with Beyu Caffe. Beyu Caffe (pronounced be-you) was founded in 2009 by Dorian Bolden to be the ultimate community gathering place where everyone could “be you”. The name and idea stems from Dorian’s lifelong experiences in various social and cultural settings whereby he believes that we all have more in common than we do differences; and he believes that if you ultimately believe in yourself and the God-given talents you were born with, then God and the Universe will handle everything else. Ultimately, you simply need to be true to yourself and “be you”.

Today, the Beyu Group is an innovative food service company based in Durham, NC comprised of three core concepts including retail cafes, an online coffee company, and (Beyu Food Project which produce and distribute meals through our community) and distribution company

The Position

Core Responsibilities (including, but not limited to/ growth and development)

  • Provide a pleasant atmosphere for all staff and/ or guests.
  • Greet customers, explain the menu, take orders, and deliver orders.
  • Assist when needed with prep and short order food production.
  • Work after-hour events, including prep, set up, tray and table service, buffet set-up, bar service, tear down, and clean up.
  • Has a willingness to be approachable, gracious, and dynamic.
  • Clean, organize and restock equipment/products after returning from catering events.
  • Ensure that events are properly equipped and executed by transporting, pulling, setting up and breaking down as well as returning equipment to designated storage locations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Knowledge | Skills | Qualifications:

  • Previous customer service experience
  • Working knowledge of budgetary practices for events preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel
  • Knowledge of health codes and laws in respect to food operations 
  • Established food service skills with references
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Availability is required for weekends, holidays, morning and evening shifts.

Essential physical requirements of this position include:

  • Standing or walking for long periods of time.
  • Frequently reaches with hands and arms and uses hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, machinery, computers, and/or controls.
  • Ability to lift objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
  • Continuously exchange information through listening and talking with staff, volunteers and individuals in the community.
  • Some work may be occasionally performed outside where employee is subject to adverse weather conditions.
