Next time you’re near downtown Durham, look up and around you. There are a few sights that just can’t be missed - particularly distinctive buildings that are unique to Bull City. Durham has so much to offer from rich culture, thriving commerce, and high-spirited people who outwardly love this city.
That’s why we’re paying homage to Durham with our new coffee bag design. It’s all about the Bull City love.
“We wanted this packaging to reflect our love for coffee AND Bull City, so we set Durham as the backdrop. The structures on the bag are places we pass everyday. They are notable elements - beautiful and historic structures." says Beyu Caffé owner, Dorian Bolden.
Whether it’s the tallest, one of the oldest, or the most identifiable building in Durham - each represents something special.
So what are these buildings in the design? Here’s the cheat sheet.
University Tower
University Tower is the tallest building in Durham standing at 356ft. Considered a landmark, this 17-story office building boasts beautiful views of both Chapel Hill and Durham due to its proximity.
One City Center
A 27-story luxury apartment building with modern amenities and beautiful views, One City Center is the second tallest building in Durham at 300ft constructed in 2018.
Durham Centre
Completed in 1988 and home of the Durham Chamber of Commerce as well as other businesses, Durham Centre is the third tallest building downtown standing at 273ft.
Mutual Tower
Formerly the tallest building in Durham from 1965 to 1986, Mutual Tower is now the fourth tallest building in Durham at 252ft. It was once the home of North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company - one of the most influential African American businesses in US history.
Duke Chapel
Duke Chapel is a magnificent and iconic 210ft structure located in the center of Duke University’s campus. It opened its doors in 1932 and is the 6th tallest building in Durham.
Durham Hand Sign - Put’ em up!
Last but not least, we can’t forget the Durham hand sign. They locals know the two-fisted, thumbs up symbol for Bull City. While we don't know the origin of this sign, it’s widely embraced, connecting local communities from all over this area.
And finally, our COFFEE IS STILL DELICIOUS. That hasn’t changed at all!
We are reintroducing our roasted coffee varieties!
- Say it Loud Dark and Proud, a dual espresso and dark roast blend of Indonesian and Latin American beans with caramel and dark chocolate tasting notes.
- Heart & Soul Signature Blend, a medium roast blend of Indonesian, Central and South American beans with semi-sweet cocoa, sweet citrus, and caramel tasting notes.
- Rise up Carolina Breakfast Blend, a mild roast, featuring Central American coffees presenting a sweet, nutty, and smooth taste profile.
Durham has changed over the years, but our heart has not. We at Beyu Caffé proclaimed our love when we opened in 2009, and it just keeps getting stronger and richer - just like our coffee.
